Book Traveling Thursdays: TBR in 2017

Book Traveling ThursdaysBook Traveling Thursdays is a weekly meme hosted by Danielle @ Danielle’s Book Blog and Catia @ The Girl Who Read Too Much. Every week you pick a book based on the theme of the week and post the original cover, your country’s cover, your favorite cover, and your least favorite cover. If you would like to participate or find out more, check out the Goodreads page!

As 2016 comes to a close, this week I am sharing a book I want to read in 2017. I want to read Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Since seeing the movie, I want to know what it was adapted from. A few years ago, my high school graduating class picked a quote from the book to be our senior class quote.

Original Cover

This is the original cover and a US cover. I don’t like this cover. I don’t like the color or the tiny photo in the corner. Despite this, this is still the cover I see the most.

US Covers

I’ve seen all of the covers but the pink-and-black before. The top left corner is the original cover. The top right corner, the pink-and-black cover, is well done. The bottom right corner is the movie cover, and I like it. The blue cover and the pink-and-black cover make me want to open the book.

Favorite Cover

This cover runs with the current trend of having a silhouette and some type of handwriting. It’s another graphic cover, but I like the chalk art. I like the little leaves and berries in the corner and the color scheme. It works beautifully.

Honorable Mentions

Both of these covers deserve an honorable mention. The German cover, on the left, is clever. I’ve disliked this cover for years, but I realized today that it is clever. I guess there is something to do with a letter in the book. The Korean cover, on the right, is also in that category where I had to look at it twice. I was first annoyed that there are other book covers on this cover, but those covers emphasize different themes and aspects in the book. I think so, anyway. The elementary-age boy on the cover is inaccurate because the protagonist is a high school freshman. These covers grew on me.

Least Favorite Cover

The Cornelsen edition is my least favorite cover. I watched a Chip Kidd TED Talk a couple weeks ago, and he narrated what happened on the first day of a graphic design class. His teacher taught that showing both the word of the object and an image of the object “is treating your audience like a moron.” The background does just that with floral-patterned wallpaper as a “wallflower.” Besides thinking about it in that light, it looks like some terrible romance book.

That’s the end of Book Traveling Thursdays for 2016. What book(s) do you want to read in 2017? Have a happy new year!
