The Identity Crisis Book Tag

It’s been a while since I’ve participated in a book tag, but this one looked like a lot of fun, taking quizzes and whatnot. I originally saw this on Books in the Skye and it was created by The Laughing Listener. I’m not going to tag anyone, but you can consider yourself tagged if you… Continue reading The Identity Crisis Book Tag

We Rule the Night by Claire Eliza Bartlett | Book Review

It’s been a long time since I read a fantasy book that included war and flight and that focused on women. I was more enticed to read Claire Eliza Bartlett’s We Rule the Night when it said one of the girls had been caught disguising herself as a man to join the military.

The Girl from the Other Side: Siúil, A Rún, Vol. 1 by Nagabe | Manga Review

The cover of The Girl From the Other Side, Vol. 1 by Nagabe struck me as a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, and the two characters on the cover looked sweet. It’s actually a sweet story about a monster who is raising a little girl who was abandoned for fear of her spreading the monstrous curse. This manga is well worth the read.

Eartha by Cathy Malkasian | Graphic Novel Review

Eartha, by Cathy Malkasian, is a bulky book about a large woman who lives in a fjord, where dreams from the city come to live. She and her fellow townspeople care for these dreams until they dissolve. But the dreams have mostly stopped coming to the fjord, making the people of the fjord cutoff from knowledge of what is going on in the city. After one particularly scary dream appears to Eartha, she is sent….

I’m Thankful for Billina Because….

Next week, the U.S. will be observing Thanksgiving. This is why weekly memes, like the I Heart Characters! Meme I’m participating in today, are using a theme of thankfulness. I’m thankful for Billina from Ozma of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Ozma of Oz is the third book in the Oz series. Billina is a… Continue reading I’m Thankful for Billina Because….

The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black | Audiobook Review

After learning that The Darkest Part of the Forest, by Holly Black, is in the same world as The Cruel Prince, I was willing to read it. It starts with an interesting setting, the town of Fairfold, where humans and the Folk have lived side by side for years. One of the attractions….

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black | Audiobook Review

Jude Duarte is trying to find a place for herself in the High Court of Faerie, where she grew up after her parents were murdered. She wishes she was like the fey so that she can belong, but she lacks immortality, unlike her oldest sister. She tries different paths so that she can belong, and that often means defying the nobility, especially Prince Cardan. This brings fey cruelty down on her head. As she gets involved in the political….

Scary Godmother by Jill Thompson | Graphic Novel Review

I used to watch Scary Godmother: Halloween Spooktacular and its sequel Scary Godmother: The Revenge of Jimmy every October, and then Cartoon Network stopped showing them. While I was in a course on children’s literature two years ago, I found Scary Godmother in the children’s section of one of the academic libraries. I never knew that the TV show was based on a graphic novel, and it was fun to read.

Mini Webcomic Reviews: ‘Hearts for Sale,’ ‘Between the Raindrops,’ and ‘Näkki’

Thus far my favorite webcomic has been Killing Stalking by Koogi, and it’s also one of the most viewed posts of all time on this blog. I’ve been meaning to really try to read through more webcomics online, but I haven’t found much success in finding another long one that I like and want to… Continue reading Mini Webcomic Reviews: ‘Hearts for Sale,’ ‘Between the Raindrops,’ and ‘Näkki’
