Wrapping Up February 2019 + A Hiatus

The end of March was two days ago, and I fell behind on my posting schedule. Before we get too much further into March, I need to share what’s gone on and a few posts that I found around the web. Stick around to the end for an announcement!

Reviewing the Month

First, I wrote a few posts of the more discussion variety. Faeries Love Interests Created by Two Friends gave me a chance to talk about the few faerie books I love and two authors who wrote them. Enemies to Lovers in Drarry Fanfiction is about one of my favorite romance tropes and why I love reading my OTP, Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy. Fellowship of the Ring Book Tag is a Tolkien-themed book tag that was fun to write.

Second, I’ve reviewed a few books this month. Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, by Stephenie Meyer, adapted by Kim Young, were two of those books. It’s been an experience to revisit Twilight. I had some nostalgia and some anger toward Edward, but I think this was a fun way to reread a book I loved so much. Blanca & Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore is a beautiful and diverse retelling of Snow-White and Rose-Red. Also, I’m hoping I can gather my thoughts enough to write a review for Lady Midnight, but I’m having trouble writing about it because I loved it.

I’m also reading On the Come Up by Angie Thomas, and it’s great!

Third, I’ve also made some progress on my reading challenges. I already posted about my Fanfiction Reading Challenge progress as part of the monthly check-in. Here’s a breakdown of the rest of my challenges.

  • Book Blog Discussion Challenge: 3/11 posts (Discussion Dabbler)
  • Diversity Reading Challenge: 4/10 books
  • Goodreads Reading Challenge: 7/30 books
  • Graphic Novel & Manga Reading Challenge: 2/12 graphic novels
  • PWOW Reading Challenge: 2/5 categories for the Formats Challenge

I haven’t yet started the Aussie Challenge. Do you have a recommendation on Australian authors or Australian books? I’m more in a mood to read YA or New Adult books, if you have suggestions.

Interesting Finds

Jackie @ Death by Tsundoku wrote about the 10 things she learned about Amanda @ Cover2CoverMom when she met her in real life. I love reading these experiences of meeting other bloggers in real life every now and then.

She also wrote about the importance of platonic relationships in literature. It’s fun to read about good friendships.

Author Francina Simone made a video where she discusses the stigma about romance in YA books. I haven’t heard a discussion like this about romance in a while, and everything Francina said needed to be said. It’s worth watching if you read or write YA books.

Dani @ Perspective of a Writer shared a perspective on the KonMari method of tidying up. I have never heard anyone before describe that if owning a lot of books gives you joy that it actually works with KonMari, and that just makes me happy. She also shares her experiences of thinning her book collection.

I’m Going on Hiatus.

I missed posting on Thursday, and I fully intended to post yesterday instead. February has been a busy month, and I’ve been running out of steam for blogging. I’m planning on taking a one or two week hiatus from blogging and should be back no later than mid-March. I need to figure out what I want to blog about, write some posts, and figure out my posting schedule.

The first two issues are tied together. I’ve read several books, and I need to write the reviews and maybe a discussion on one of them. I’m very behind on writing blog posts and haven’t quite felt like writing them. I’ve also been less inclined to get on Twitter or Instagram for blogging-related activities.

One of the biggest issues on this list is my posting schedule. I’ve been posting twice a week for two years now, and I need to really think about if I can keep going that pace or if I need to take more vacations from blogging during the year. At the moment, I think I need to take a one-week break a few times a year before making the decision to drop my posts down to once per week.

For now, you won’t see new content on this blog for one or two weeks. I will see you all in mid-March on this blog. I might float onto Twitter or Instagram during that time, but I don’t want to promise it.

Until next time, au revoir.

  1. I hope you had your break and found some time to rejuvenate. Taking breaks go a long way when it comes to finding inspiration
