Book Traveling Thursdays: A Spooky Read

In this meme we call home
Everyone hail to the spooky tale*

Book Traveling ThursdaysToday is another Book Traveling Thursday, and it’s Halloween-themed. Book Traveling Thursdays is a weekly meme hosted by Danielle @ Danielle’s Book Blog and Catia @ The Girl Who Read Too Much. Every week you pick a book based on the theme of the week and post the original cover, your country’s cover, your favorite cover, and your least favorite cover. If you would like to participate or find out more, check out the Goodreads page!

For Halloween, I had to choose a spooky read. I chose White Is for Witching by Helen Oyeyemi. Written in the gothic style, the novel is about this house that kills all of the women in family, and it starts with a dead and missing Miranda. Starting with a desire to eat chalk, Miranda grows distant from the men in her family, including her twin brother. Ore witnesses Miranda’s decline and the power of the house in Dover. This is an engrossing read for any time of year, but it works well for the spookiness of Halloween.

Original/Least Favorite Cover

While I appreciate that this cover shows the three women, I don’t care for the design.

U.S. Cover

There are several U.S. covers, so I will only show one this time. I like the graphic art of this cover. It shows Miranda, the house, and the photographs.

I love this cover for its simple design and the focus on the three women that the house is obsessed with.

Do you seek out “spooky” reads for Halloween? What about movies? I usually binge on Hocus Pocusthe Halloweentown movies, and the R.L. Stine episodes. Have you ever dressed up as a character from a book? I’ve gone as Hermione Granger.

Have a happy Halloween, Samhain, Day of the Dead, etc.!

*I modified the lyrics of Marilyn Manson’s “This Is Halloween.”
