Gore Vidal was 86 years old when he died on July 31, 2012, in Los Angeles. The cause of death, according to his nephew, was complications from pneumonia. He was a well-known author, playwright, politician, and commentator. His vast and sharpened range of written works and public remarks were stamped by his immodest wit and unconventional wisdom. His works included hundreds of essays, many novels, and several plays. Two of his essays are Armageddon? and Matters of Fact and Fiction. Two of the novels were Lincoln and Myra Breckenridge. The Tony-nominated play is The Best Man. He was a self-educated man. His fans miss him and will continue to miss him. May he rest in peace.
